If you have been following my blog, you see that other than the pictures I posted on the library wall for the Boston Rebellion, I do not cover current events rather overarching themes.
While at protests and constantly engaging in conversations, certain things do not make it on my blog. This is because writing is not cathartic for me. I feel I have nothing original to add to the conversations about extremely nuanced topics. However lack of ingenuity does not warrant a free pass. A few weeks ago I wrote a piece called “Do you Know how Powerful you are? ”
In December after the failure to indict Darren Wilson for the murder of Mike Brown, I urged the juniors I SAT to do any and everything to keep issues in conversation. This could be done by protesting, writing, making art, dancing, etc. As long as we do not allow the world we need to change leave our minds, (which is easier than it sounds because it may be more convenient or may not affect you as much, and this is addressed to my white colleagues), we are good, because when we lose sight of reality, we lose sight of our dreams and become complicit in our oppression. We must continue to press forward and create!
