A feminist believes in and fights for the social, economic, equality of the sexes.
To say that feminism is/isn't "bra burning " would do it a grave injustice; some women feel bras are oppressive tools of patriarchy and refuse to wear the contraptions.
Feminists have been described as hairy lesbians and some are, but some are also fathers, grandmothers, lovers, and friends of young women who realize the patriarchal structures of society leave women at a grave disadvantage and should not exist.
Feminists care about a lot of things:
I do not condone the term 'intersectional', which is a term used to describe the brand of feminism that includes "more than gender issues".
Race, hetero-normativity, and socioeconomics are all tools that work in conjunction with patriarchy to keep anyone who is not a white cis-gender male oppressed.
My brand of feminism includes the fight for anything that lives:
Women
Girls
Trees
Men
Trans and Queer Folks (Including my non-binary folks)
Victims of Abuse
Political Prisoners
Colored peoples
Plants
Animals
Patriarchy does a good job keeping people oppressed by it thinking they cannot affect change. Well guess what! WE CAN.
