High school, or any form of education should not be spent being told what to think, but being taught how to think. Youth are underestimated because they are not being allowed/expected to shine. This attitude is why politicians think it is okay to take money from public schools.
Using methods like walk-outs, and sit-ins Philadelphia high school students are organizing and effecting change, fighting for their rights. I cannot express how radical you are. The French revolution and America’s Civil Rights Movement were organized by college students— and the American Revolution, by old men. A notion high school students and the people that educate them entertain is that one must wait until college to take charge of their learning and form opinions about the world they live in. Contrastingly, youth not old enough to vote are making political demands. Students should never underestimate what they are capable of. That is why I come to you to ask what you are doing to make the world a better place?
Are you creating art, learning about what’s going on in the world, are you reading? Tiny actions to better yourself better the world.One thing that’s been so great about the SLA experience is the opportunity to study anything you choose and not having to carve out extra time in your hectic schedule to do it.

As a community and as individuals we should be calling for the fostering of a humane, kind, place to think, with room for everyone.
